From June 2022, we are adding a new verification system for locum jobs added to Messly.

This system aims to ensure that all locum jobs added to Messly are genuine roles, and will report those which are suspected as not being real roles.

This will give doctors confidence that all locum jobs they see are real, and will help recruiters as they will not be competing against fake or unachievable locum jobs which deceive doctors.

Which locum jobs are reported

Initially the system will report jobs which meet the following conditions:

  • A&E locum jobs in hospitals which do not have an A&E, as per the latest NHS data

  • Non-Paediatrics locum jobs in Children’s hospitals

  • Non-Obstetrics & Gynaecology locum jobs in Women’s hospitals

  • Non-Psychiatry locum jobs in mental health units

We also have a reporting feature for doctors to notify us of locum jobs which they know to not be genuine.

The reporting will apply to locum jobs added to messages sent to doctors, as well as locum jobs added directly to Messly.

We are currently in the process of expanding these rules to flag locum jobs in community hospitals which are known to not be available in those hospitals. This will be implemented shortly.

Reporting process

If a locum job is reported by the system, these steps will follow:

  • If the locum job was added to a message, the entire message will not be delivered to the doctor. You will then not be able to contact that doctor again, for 24 hours.

  • If the locum job is added directly via your Jobs page, the job will be blocked and will not show to doctors.

  • We will send you an email to notify you that this has taken place. If the system has flagged a job in error, please let us know and we can rectify this. We will ensure that the rules are then updated in future.

  • We will take repeated instances of flagged locum jobs as a serious breach of our Code of Conduct, and will contact you to discuss the implications. This is likely to include temporary or permanent pausing of your account.

We’ve applied these rules retrospectively to locum jobs which have been added to Messly. You can see your jobs which have been flagged by clicking here.
